FAST COMPANY ran an article in its October, 2000 issue with this headline:

"Futurists say that psychology is a driving force equal to technology and to economics. But when it comes to business what we know about the mind doesn't represent a fraction of what we know about technology or economics."

==============

In business, the unconscious mind of partners, colleagues, competitors, customers and SELF can make or break you.

Knowing your own mind comes first.

You can learn many things by watching television, listening to lectures, and reading, but you don't retain and use new concepts well until you interact with them, knead them into shape to fit the bubbles in your brain.

"By writing about a subject we want to learn, we reason our way to what it means."
Albert Upton, Ph.D

When we read, watch and listen, we take in. When we write, we discover, or uncover what's really on our minds. The hand is intimately connected to the mind.

Each one of us makes basic assumptions about ourselves, other people and the world based on what we have heard repeatedly from a very young age and based on our experiences. Our beliefs come from our individual interpretations of each experience, not from scientific fact.

For example, if, when you were a baby, your crib faced an east window and you saw the sunrise you may have interpreted that sunlight meant breakfast. If, however, your crib faced a shaded west window you may have assumed that sunlight meant outdoor activities and the ring of an alarm clock meant breakfast.

If the tone of voice in which you heard, "Don't touch the stove!" was extremely loud, and you interpreted the fear in it as anger, you would develop more caution, perhaps, around people than around hot stoves.

Now, as an adult, you may not be aware that your particular interpretation of experiences, even truly insignificant ones, have shaped beliefs that are getting in your way.

As all professional athletes and politicians know, success is ninety percent attitude. Attitude is based on your beliefs about other people, the world, and YOURSELF.

Are you sure you KNOW what your attitude is?

Handwriting uncovers layers of wonders. It lets you look at your attitudes and beliefs, your unconscious and habitual patterns of thinking, and thereby gain control of them. It introduces you to that unused, powerful 90% of your brain that remembers everything.

(Try writing with your non-dominant hand for more surprises.)

The only things in this world you can control are your own thoughts, and your thoughts create your life every day!
